The Right Way to Shampoo Our Hair

HOW WE DO THINGS makes all the difference in the world. If we want an ideal end result, we have to make sure that we do the entire process in the right way. And hair care is no exception to this rule. If we need healthier hair, we need to make sure that the way we treat our hair with love while shampooing it.

Thus, to be certain of the right way to wash our hair, Smart Family Magazine meets the team at Beauty Bar and lists out the life-changing guidelines.

Oil it up: Although our Nepali traditions have been encouraging us to oil our hair every now and then, we have ignored oiling our hair. But it just so turns out that oiling your hair before washing them adds shine and strength to your hair. For doing so, you can use either of coconut, castor or olive oil, with some added vitamins if you want, and massage it on to your head. Let your scalp absorb the oil for about approximately one hour and only then wash it up.

Preparation is the key: Most Nepalese don’t bother preparing for a shower and instead jump right into the bathroom. However, washing our head needs time and effort even before we actually step into the washroom. It is ideal to prep your hair for the wash by untangling all the knots in our hair thoroughly. This way we don’t get balls of tangled hair even after we get done with showering our hair. We also need to make sure to use a suitable wide-toothed comb or hairbrush to smoothen out our hair.

Choose what goes on your hair: Harsh chemicals never do any good. We better stick to shampoos that are paraben free and are low on chemicals like silicon and sulfates. The core idea behind it is that we need a shampoo that is gentle enough to not harm or take away your hair’s moisture but powerful enough to wash away all the build ups that we get from Nepal’s polluted surroundings.

Warm Water: There isn’t a set temperature of the water that we need to use to optimize our hair care regime but what we need to make sure that the water is lukewarm. Doing so opens up the pores in our scalps and better cleans out hairlines.

Lather the scalp: The correct way to shampoo our hair is by lathering up mostly only on our scalps. We need to very gently massage the scalp so that the hair doesn’t break up or fizzes up. We should start massaging our hair from the scalp of our hair then slowly and carefully move downwards to the tip of the hair. But even before lathering we should first give our hair a minute or two in the water so that each strand is wet enough to lather up.

Seal the deal: Even though it is okay to use warm water while showering, it is advisable to take a quickie wash with cold water at the end. This one last round of cold water ensures that the pores that open up while using warm water close and locks the moisture in our scalp itself. And not to forget, it also adds shine and preserves the color of your hair.

Condition your hair: According to the team at Beauty Bar, conditioning our hair is only a short-term solution. To have lustrous and radiant hair, hair treatment is a must since they give a better and far more long-lasting solution to  bouncier and smoother hair.

Take a break: While a lot of people believe that the more we wash our hair the better it gets, it is totally a myth. We should wash our hair twice a week. If we wash our hair every day, the moisture in our hair gets washed away leaving the hair dry and frizzy. However, if the pollution in Nepal gets to you, you can increase the number of showers to alternate days that is about three to four times a week.

Nevertheless, we need to understand that all of us are different and so are the requirements of our hair. But need not worry, we should just embrace our hair type and try to make the best out of it
