Decorating with Fairy Lights

Leonard Cohen says in his song Anthem: “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in,” what he meant to say is that there is absolutely nothing that is built perfectly. It is through the flaws that the light seeps in allowing us to thrive. Just as in the song these small fairy lights always seem to make their way and turn anything and everything a little brighter and better.

Fairy lights, in other words, LED string lights, are versatile little lights that can be twisted and manipulated into numerous ways in order to suit a number of unique designs and purposes. They tend to come in all different tones and sizes, making them suitable for creating unique designs. They are appealing to the eye and are especially popular among teenagers. These lights can be utilized in numerous creative ways to accentuate any bare room.

One of the most basic ways to decorate your room with these lights is to spread and weave them around the wall. As an alternative to a large canvas or even a painting, these lights will add charm to any plain wall. Something similar to that, you can even hang up these lights around your bed or even above it with the help of a light fabric. With this clever idea, you can create a starry-night effect and sleep under the stars every night whilst having a warm and cosy feeling before you sleep.

To spice up your room a little bit more you can even create a twinkling text with the help of these fairy lights. Neon signs and marquee letters are trendy yet but expensive. So why not create your own? With some imagination and a few strategically placed drawing pins, and of course some fairy lights, you can shape the lights into any word you like and hang the twinkling design in your room.

Another simple decoration you can make is a lamp with some twist to it. Gather any old mason jar or any old glass bottles you have lying around and put some fairy lights into it and tada you have your very own mini lamp. You can create just one or even more of them and tie them with some wire and hang them. There’s no limit to your creativity, so explore design as per your liking.

I must not be the only one with random photographs lying around in my house, or even in the corners of my notebooks. If you’ve found yourself in the same situation then get some fairy lights and hang those pictures with it on an empty wall somewhere around your room. The wire of fairy lights makes the perfect place to showcase your favourite snaps.

Got a boring old mirror or even a plant lying around your room? Don’t fret! By merely intertwining some fairy lights to these objects their beauty will be enhanced and will be brought back to life. The plants now will be able to glow while they grow, and with the help of these twinkling lights in the mirror, you too can get yourself some nice shots of mirror selfies.

Another great way to decorate your room with these lights is to give your already existing chandelier a hint of fairy lights to it. Wrap the chandelier with some small fairy lights and you can create a warm and magical lighting center piece. It’ll give your room an illuminating update, making it brighter and even more dazzling.

Last but not the least, a very simple way to brighten your room a bit more is to drape these fairy lights around your study desk, shelving units or even your bookshelf. Adding a bit of sparkle here and then can definitely go a long way. The books on your bookshelf deserve to be hidden among the darkness, so get some tape and start hanging those lights.
