Make your walls and furniture classy by using mosaics.

Who doesn’t want to be an early adopter and a trendsetter, in the fashion industry, or at your home? You certainly want your home to reflect your style and class as much as the clothes you wear. And a new trend is slowly spreading its wings in the streets of Kathmandu’s interior designs and decoration scenario and it’s mosaics.

The mosaics have been around for quite some time as decorative elements. It’s gained popularity in the recent times as small wall arts hung around the rooms. But now it’s being introduced as a bigger player in the interior designer world. It is mostly popular in the commercial sectors such as hotels, restaurants, schools and offices, and is slowly gaining popularity in the residential sector as well.

People have been slowly accepting mosaic tiles into their homes because of the elegance and class they add to a space. When done right all you need are 4 to 5 mosaic tiles to turn your living space into a classy haven. When used intelligently and creativity, mosaics have the power to completely change the look and feel of your home. And given that mosaics are generally easy to clean, maintain, have high durability, and are flexible in terms of their use, they were bound to grow in popularity.  But putting mosaics up in every room of your home is not advisable, for budgetary reasons.  Consider the fact that the price for mosaic tiles range from Rs.1,725 to Rs.3,500 per square feet.

You may want to keep the following points in mind when you tell your interior designers about mosaics.

  • Bedroom: Ever been inspired by a beautiful room on Pinterest or Google and longed for a headboard above your bed? Da Interiors and Decorations are here for your mosaic solutions. You should check out their leather mosaic collection for your headboard needs. They have about 12 designs in numerous colors. In case you want to purchase a collection from their catalogue that isn’t immediately available, it can be delivered within 25 days.

Mosaic headboards add a nice touch of warmth and class to your bedroom. Additionally, you can also add mosaic tiles to your wardrobe cabinet doors to add that extra touch of style to your bedroom.

  • Living room: Your most frequented multi purpose room also has a lot of options when it comes to mosaics. If and when you have a large enough budget, you can get your accent wall done completely in mosaic panels. But if you are only looking for a subtle yet powerful effect, you may want to highlight something on the wall -- like the television, an artwork, or simply a clock -- with mosaic tiles. Mosaics made of  wood, ancient wood, coconut, leather, jute and leather, bamboo, metal, and MOP(Mother of Pills) are all readily available options for your living room.

In case you are not an art collector but want a nice art piece in your room you can ask your interior designer to design a feature piece for the wall using mosaics. But you will need to make sure mosaic choices complement your furniture.

  • Kids, study and dining rooms:

Mosaics are not used that often on the walls in kid’s room despite the fact that they are easy to clean and maintain.  You can however use them in furniture placed around the room or as wall arts.

The study and the dining rooms, like the kid’s room, are not terribly suited for mosaics walls even though they can be easily taken off when you no longer want them. They can however cleverly be incorporated into the tables and chairs present in the room.
