Truly a place that defines beauty and sophistication, Nanglo Café &Pub at Kamaladi is a place to be.

As you enter, you are surrounded with the enigmatic aroma of coffee, beautifully set tables and a setting that makes you feel as if you are in a coffee shop from the 80s. A wall for people who love antique pieces that comprises of vintage cameras, paintings, tea cups, books and unusual things complemented the ambience marvelously. I could go on and on about this place.

As I explored, the outside space looked like a scene you see in movies where boy meets girl on a first date and fall in love. Walls with alluring color combination of white and turquoise green in a cozy and little space with comfortable sittings of pillows made it, a perfect definition of a comfort space for some me time or a much-needed hideout.

As you go up, you are bound to get intrigued by the architectural beauty of the place. It looks like a house built during the Rana period. Wooden staircases lead you to rooms with tight but cozy ceiling. It that doesn’t feel intimidating, rather it feels like a home where you are welcomed. The warm light amplified the comfort the space had already been delivering to me and everything there seemed ideal for a perfect candle light dinner with your loved one or for your family get togethers. And if you are a breakfast or a brunch person, the outside terrace space of Nanglo is a place where you can soak up the morning sun and get started on the day with a perfect breakfast.

As we entered, we were greeted with warm welcomes that lightened my mood just being there. It is really hard to find such warm reception in restaurants these days. Being in the business for more than a decade, the place has always been on top of the game when it comes to serving exactly what guests want.  Their menu is dynamic and creative, and you become overwhelmed with what to order.  Apart from their delicious Newari bhoj, I got to relish the last time there, this time, I decided to go for their Chinese menu they offered. Excited to try their Chinese menu, I dived in and ordered a lot of food. Before ordering, we had a chance to interact with the Managing Director of Nanglo and he really gave us some lip-smacking food options that we couldn’t say no to.

We started off with their dragon chicken roll. The dish was such a burst of exotic flavors and indeed a clever combination of the crunchiness on the outside and the subtle flavors of the insides of the chicken. The juiciness just oozing out, nutrient-filled vegetables, and biting into the piping hot dish took me right into food coma.

The next dish which was Chicken Noodles. It was a simple looking dish yet filled with such definitive and complex flavors. The noodles were light and blended together with all the vegetables and spices that came together as a perfect 10/10 dish, and delivered the perfect zing of stellar flavors for me.
I almost forgot to mention the tempting garlicky flavor of the Garlic Prawn, which was such a tantalizing dish. It came with succulent prawn served with a well-balanced sauce that gave such a refined and refreshing flavor of sea food goodness.  Such a joyous meal and bite to take.

The Chinese Style Fried Chicken was my favorite from the bunch. Brown and crispy on the outside, the dish was not overpowered by the sauce and I could taste all the wholesome flavors beautifully. The flavors were impossibly rich, peppery and sultry, my mouth just waters remembering about it.

Dumplings aka mo:mo is every Nepali’s favorite dish. Served in a bowl with such a homely taste of spices of the achaar, this dish felt heart-smart in every aspect.  The crusty bit on the bottom of the dumpling was the highlight for me. The momos came steaming hot yet gloriously crunchy with the tangy flavor of the achaar, what more could I ask?

So, if you are a fan of antique interiors, sophisticated furnishing, and some luscious food, treat yourself and your loved ones to Nanglo. Definitely a distinct and versatile place that serves such opulent flavors, it is bound to fulfill all your food cravings.
