Five questions about Yoga you might have wondered

Everybody knows that Yoga is good for you. Nothing about it’s physical and mental benefits would be new to people who’ve heard about it everywhere. However, there are a few things that you might have wondered about it, that needs to be debunked.

It’s not about religion

People often correlate Yoga with Hinduism, since it was originated in India. In truth, it’s not affiliated to any religion. All it does is connect you to your inner self. So, it does not matter if you’re a Christian or a Muslim you can still embrace the positive changes Yoga brings.

It can be your main form of exercise

Its true Yoga does not burn as many calories as cardio or weight-training would. But it does burn a substantial amount. Some forms of Yoga are more physically challenging than others. Hatha Yoga can burn up to 200 calories in an hour. While there are others which helps you control your binge eating impulses. The key is finding one that is suited for your goals.

It does not make you a totally different person

Once you get started on Yoga, it does not make you want to give up on all the toxic aspects of your life, nor does it transform you all at once. It’s a deeply internal process, that depends on how willing and committed you are. All it does is, help you tap into your inner self and connect you to yourself. This can be incredibly powerful.

Nobody is more spiritual than others

There’s no such thing as Yoga working more effectively for a person who’s supposedly more spiritual than others. Everyone has a spirit and all are spiritual. Being calm, balanced and empathetic is something everyone can work on.

Doing it the wrong way can bad effects

Poses in yoga can be complex and difficult to master. Some can demand extreme
flexibility and strength. As beneficial Yoga is, it can be equally disastrous if done wrong. Backaches, ankle sprains, and stiffness follow if some asanas are done incorrectly. So, it’s best to not try yoga looking at Youtube videos and so-called ‘miracle’ Yoga books.

The best option would be to sign up for a Yoga class with a trained instructor to guide you through all the asanas until you can do it at home yourself.
