The ins and outs of the hot stone therapy revealed.

Heritage Spa, located at Basundhara, Kathmandu is the destination for anyone looking for a head to toe massage using natural products. The spa also owns an academy called the Aesthetic International Professional Academy that provides training to aestheticians of Nepal.

One of the spa’s most admirable services is the Hot Stone Therapy that helps warm up the tissues, and is best followed by a deep tissue massage. Fit for people of all age groups, this therapy is known for its healing properties, especially for lower back pain and muscle stiffness.

To know more about this therapy, I took a trip to Heritage Spa.

At the spa, I was taken to the therapy room where I lied on the bed chest down. I was made comfortable in my position before the masseuse started the therapy. Firstly, the masseuse massaged my legs with camphor oil and, then, used the iron-rich basalt stone –warm and smooth- to massage one leg at a time, manually draining any toxins to my lymph nodes. The warm stone truly relaxed my muscles and made me feel light. After finishing my leg massage, she placed the warm stones on certain points of my legs and let them stay there. She then started the massage process all over again but this time it was on my back and shoulder.  The process was repeated until each part of my body had been massaged. After completing the massage, I was given a choice of a wet towel or a bath to end the therapy.  I chose the wet towel, but either is fine.

All in all, the therapy is extremely rejuvenating and claims to be helpful in relieving muscle pain.
