Deli Akuj creates pastries that go beyond the traditional fare.

As I walked through the front door of Deli Akuj, a cafe located in a peaceful area four minutes of walk away from Sunrise Bank in Gairidhara, a part of Europe came up to me in the form of freshly brewed Italian Illy coffee and scrumptious French pastries. Out of the wide yet rare choices of delicacies, the chocolate éclairs, the Saint Honore, and the blueberry cheesecake captured my attention within a moment. From the in-house made whipped cream to the soft texture of pastries, every minor detail was taken care of. The perfect size and the right amount of tenderness and lightness of pastries make them worth their price. The desserts were also a treat to my eyes with their simple yet elegant appearance.

Even for someone lacking the sweet tooth, Deli Akuj is still a good choice with its offering of multigrain bread, healthy green tea éclairs and one of its kind eggs benedict. Additionally, with about twelve different varieties of Dammann Freres -- a French Tea Company -- even a tea lover is sure to have as much good time here as a coffee lover. And still, if you find no reason to visit the café, the retail section of the café with coffee machines (which are perfect for home and office), teacups, and saucers are sure to attract you to the place.

As per the co-owner and pastry chef of the café, Ms. Manjita Thapa (a culinary arts alumnus of Le Cordon Bleu in Paris) the café aims to keep up Nepal with the world’s changing pastry culture and expects to bring to Nepal something more than just traditional dessert menu. “Prepare yourself for the upcoming rainbow cappuccino and the revamped pastry choices,” she adds.
