The Backyard Memories

Bhaktapur has always been a place that reminds us of beautiful and historical monuments, rich local customs, majestic wooden homes and cozy alleys where you feel as if having Ju:Ju Dhau is the best thing in the whole world. Amongst this majestic beauty, I was lucky enough to find another place of beauty rather away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Located just a little inside Dekocha, a place called The Backyard speaks of beauty and sophistication. The space opens to a beautiful home with an even more beautiful garden. This place did not feel strange, it was more like a place where you belong. Greeted by the most huge and welcoming smiles, I was keen to discover what this place could to offer me. As I walked in, I saw a bar on the side with comfortable couches to enjoy for the rest of the day. What more could I need? Stairs led to more sittings upstairs and it literally felt like the perfect place where I could come and take the day off or simply be with my friends and family.

Diving into their menu, it was more elaborate than I had hoped it to be and the price ranges were surprisingly affordable. Given the cheap price, I somehow thought maybe the food wouldn’t be as good as I hoped. But when I tasted their crispy chicken for starters, all my judgement went right down my empty stomach as I relished this amazing comfort food among such a homely ambience. The juicy and soft chicken was wrapped with a crispy batter, which was pleasing to the eyes and the taste buds. The delicious taste of the crispy chicken just lightened up my mood. I couldn’t have had enough. And served with a mixture of mayo and ketchup, this perfect combination was a great snack to have anytime and anywhere. And it would taste even better when you share it with people you love.

Being a biryani freak, I decided to give their biryani a go. I have always been rather selective about what place I eat my biryani. Aesthetically pleasing, the biryani looked exquisite in every way with its rich brown colors. The taste of the biryani with its burst of flavors, each and every one of which I could taste beautifully, just about melted everything in my mouth. The spices were balanced cleverly to give that garlicky smell to the biryani and more important, the chicken was cooked to perfection complemented the richness of the flavors. The raita served brought excitement to the whole meal by adding a zing to the taste buds. It was served with generous portions but still I just kept wishing that there would be more.

My last dish, the grilled chicken, was another smack on dish, a perfect 10/10 from every angle. What I simply loved about the dish was how it was on the healthier side. The dish was prepared with fresh ingredients that had all the beneficial nutrients.  The dish came with was served with vegetables like carrots, cauliflower and legumes and rice. The exquisitely grilled chicken was grilled for just about the right amount of time until it had a smoky smell and flavor. Upon diving into the dish, it felt creamy and soft even without any sauce. The flavors were altogether cleverly balanced. The overall dish was a huge success in terms of its healthy and tasty deliverance.

At the end, I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t get to sit in the yard and enjoy my food there due to the scorching sun. But the next time I plan to come early for breakfast with my family and enjoy some precious time with them while I eat the amazing food I get at the backyard. If you are someone who loves being at a homely ambience and enjoy good times with good people then this place is a must to visit. Drop by for some breakfast with your friends or special someone, a good night out with live music, or simply for a good dinner date with
