Leaky Gut Syndrome, is still a hypothetical, but the possible cause is increased intestinal permeability or intestinal hyper-permeability.

The inner linings of our intestines are supposed to be almost impermeable to insulate us from the harmful germs and undigested food entering our blood system. They are supposed to allow only fully digested food to pass through, failure to do so results in a multitude of problems and illnesses that a majority are suffering without even knowing the cause.

We have all heard about or even experienced food allergies, from simple allergies to shrimps, eggs, and milk to serious ones like peanuts and mushrooms that can be fatal. But have you heard about food intolerance?

When we have food allergies we get an immediate response, when we are allergic to some foods we get an immediate rash or swelling and learn not to consume it again. It’s like the first time we touch fire, we burn, and  we learn not to do it again. But what about the times we eat something and a day or two or sometimes hours later we start getting diarrhea, headaches, insomnia, bloating, and constipation, but do we blame it on food allergies? Sometimes we get depressed, acne, headaches, itchy skin, bed wetting, bronchitis, migraines, and hyperactivity, do you think it’s a food allergy? What about cystic fibrosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, asthma and obesity? The answer is that not of them are food allergies, but they all canbe related to food intolerance/ food sensitivity due to leaky gut syndrome!

You may have a healthy and perfect immune system &/or  you might be feeling physically fit, but emotional stress and trauma, usage of drugs/anti-biotic/NSAID: paracetamol, consumption of alcohol, ingestion of junk food, and even eating the same foods on a regular basis can leads to condition of leaky gut.

When person with good immune system but leaky gut condition as mention above, more undigested food pass through widened gut lining & produce more Antigen-Antibody complex which entered in to blood stream without getting neutralized by microphages & get deposited on tissue & cause inflammation which in terns causes migraine, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), etc. This adverse response delayed from few hours to many days & that confuse person intolerance to specific food/s well as clinician unless it is advice for the specific food IgG test to identify specific food responsible for these conditions.

Even a small amount of leakage of the digestive tract into the bloodstream would be very unhealthy. Our  leak proof lining is only one cell layer thick and can be easily damaged. The cells of this lining live only 3 days. They have an extremely high metabolic activity and an intense nutritional demands.   When enough of these cells are damaged there are more and more gaps in the intestinal lining allowing large quantities of molecular debris – undigested and partially digested protein, carbohydrates and fat as well as fragments from microorganisms pollute the blood and lymph nodes of the intestinal tract.

This all sound depressing but what is the solution

1. Test for food intolerance

2. Holistically resolve your leaky gut by preventing and avoiding some food for a time period.

3. Eat healthy and stay healthy and keep testing yourselves.

not of them are food allergies, but they all can be related to food intolerance/ food senstiity due to Leaky Gut Syndrome!

Help the Brain: 5 Ways

Nourish

Intestinal cells have high nutritional demands. Get a foundation of whole foods like whole grains, vegetables and fruits, good quality protein, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, essential fatty acids, fiber . L-Glutamine is a key intestinal nutrient that needs to be included in any gut rehabilitation program. Zinc, anti-oxidants- (grape seed extract, milk thistle extract and green tea extract, Vit C, E and carotenes), water soluble fiber such as guar gum, lecithin and omega-3 fatty acids from fish and flax oil. Minerals such as calcium, magnesium, selenium and chromium. Finally digestive enzymes are often recommended by nutritional professionals in improve digestive function.

TOXINS removal

Exercise promotes good digestion and helps effective detoxification. Certain nutrients can help the liver and gut efficiently dispose of toxins. The amino acids glycine, taurine, N-acetyl cysteine, and L-Glutamine are key liver detoxification nutrients. Milk Thistle extract, Green Tea and Turmeric help with detoxification activities as well as vitamin C and B-complex vitamins. Finally both soluble and insoluble dietary fiber activate liver detoxification systems and can act as a natural “broom” sweeping toxins out of the body.

PROBIOTICS

Are especially important during and after anti-biotic use, but are best used on a regular basis throughout life. They should always be used with Pre-biotics such as FOS, Inulin, oat bran, legume fiber or guar gum. Eating yogurt is beneficial because the transient bacteria still help.

IDENTIFY & Eliminate

People with brain-related problems often have persistent adverse food reactions that need to be identified and dealt with. Identifying and properly managing food allergies or intolerances can bring about dramatic improvements in cognitive performance, behavior and overall health.

Avoid gut offenders

Junk food, fast food, deep-fried, overcooked, over-processed and most canned foods. Avoid products containing hydrogenated vegetable oils. Reduce the amounts of dietary fat, sugar or starches. Replace coffee, sugary soft drinks and fruit juices with water, green tea or herbal tea. Learning Factors Smoothie Mix makes a great alternative to a meal or snack.

ENS-CNS link ( The strong link between Enteric Nervous System & Central Nervous System)

The ENS is two thin layers of more than 100 million nerve cells lining your gastrointestinal tract from esophagus to rectum. So we have another  brain hiding inside these two thin walls, not capable of making thoughts, however revolutionize the entire process of CNS through a lot of back and forth communication. As per John Hopkin’s University ,  this new understanding of the ENS-CNS connection helps explain the effectiveness of IBS and bowel-disorder treatments such as antidepressants and mind-body therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and medical hypnotherapy. “Our two brains ‘talk’ to each other, so therapies that help one may help the other,”So we can say  gastroenterologists (doctors who specialize in digestive conditions) are like counselors looking for ways to soothe the second brain , I mean  THE BRAIN WE KNOW.“ Know Your Poison” - Food Detective or Food Print Lab test can be done to identify. A healthy guts leads to a healthy brain and body that gives a totally new positive outlook on life- a great reward.
