Naturopathy is a complete drugless therapy. WHO has given a benchmark for the therapy and it has certain guidelines which includes various drugless cures like acupuncture, hydrotherapy, massage therapy, nutrients therapy, casting therapy and many more.

Dr. Deepa Pandey who studied naturopathy from Karnataka state in India explains how it promotes less use of drugs wherever possible. She graduated from college under Rajiv Gandhi University and came back to Nepal to work in the same field. This field and its unique way to cure people with no use of drugs and natural elements always interested her and made her curious to learn more. She wanted to promote not only as a profession but as a concept that not every pain requires drugs. There are no naturopathy colleges in Nepal and to have one, Dr. Deepa Pandey is working on national level for it too. But there are many hospitals in this field and the private hospitals are well known as well.

Every human is a product of nature and is obviously connected back to it in one way or the other. Being inspired by how the goal was to find the cause of the pain rather than only cover it up, Dr. Deepa Pandey decided to go for the root cause of the problems and work strongly with healing through nature. The process of naturopathy uses no medicine and it does not only work for the outer body and physical cure, it also focuses on what goes in the body and reacts accordingly. The nutrients therapy in naturopathy works for the same. It believes in “We are what we eat”. Food puts a huge effect on the system of our body so naturopathy tries to find the cure in the roots from where it all starts. “Food is our medicine and our medicine is our food” is the quote nutrient therapy works on. If we take the food the right way, it cures us but if the same thing is taken the wrong way it destroys us.

Naturopathy basically gives a healing environment to the body because it believes in “Body heals itself”. The body only needs a good environment so it can better heal itself. That is why a better diet, healthy habits and active cells are what it focuses more on. We of course need to push the body to its limits but it is more likely to cure itself slowly and steadily. Many diseases need drugs and surgery if they are severe but there is also a misconception that naturopathy cannot heal the body, people need to understand that there are many ways to heal the body. Naturopathy is drugless but it activates the body for its long-term betterment. Having no side effects from the treatment, naturopathy is a modern way to cure diseases with traditional concepts. It searches for the root cause, works for a better lifestyle and healthy habits.

There are 2 concepts for naturopathy, the traditional and modern concept. The traditional concept according to Vedas believes that our body is made of 5 natural elements, the air, the earth, the water, the fire and the sky and same goes for the environment. The imbalance of these elements gives way to the disease and to balance it back, the same elements can be used for the treatment, it is more like a restoration of what our body lost. The modern concept includes the natural therapy we use in naturopathy and it has 4 levels that are preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative. The concept of naturopathy tries to prevent the disease, promote the betterment, cure the damage and to restore the elements in the body. Naturopathy provides the healing elements to the body like heat and cold, the necessary amount of pressure, the activation of healing points and many more. Naturopathy enhances the natural healing process

Dr. Deepa Pandey has been working in this field for years now and speaking why we should consider naturopathy is because we tend to ignore the simplest things in life and go for the complex ones. Naturopathy should be included as the first level of the treatment because it is a basic form of cure. Before using  any drug, we need to consider a drugless way to let our body heal. Until our body has the capacity to heal itself, we need to push it to the limits and drugs should only be used when we need to force our healing. Before jumping to results, we need to see the root cause of the problem, look back at our lifestyle and create a space for our body. Naturopathy has no side effects, it always focuses on connection to nature. So, people should move to the modern thought of treatment and put more focus on natural than man made cures till it is possible.
