In conversation with Mrs. Punam Shrestha, Poonam Beauty Academy

Started noticing hairfall now more than ever?

Hair fall is an issue which affects thousands and thousands of people all over the world. Various researches say that it is normal to lose up to 100-150 strands of hair each day. It is natural for your hair to fall so that new hair grows in the same follicle. But, one needs to know the difference between hair fall and hair loss. Therefore, if you have see-through patches in your head or your scalp is getting visible, you should definitely visit a hair doctor.

I personally am facing hair fall problems too like many of us. What’s more is that the hair fall has increased a lot more now. So, I have interviewed Mrs. Punam Shrestha to know more about the reason behind hair fall and ways to minimize it. Let’s look at what she has to say about this matter.

  1. We hear a lot of people complain that after the lockdown, they have started noticing more hair fall than ever. What do you think are the main reasons behind the hair fall?

It is a natural phenomenon; so there’s no need to worry over a few follicles falling off. There could be many causes of hair loss. Some of them include diet, mineral deficiency, medications, stress, pollution and genetics. Putting on a cap or helmet for a long time could also be another reason.

  1. What can one do to control hair fall?

Here are some of the things one can do to control hair fall:

  • Wash your hair with mild shampoo.
  • Vitamin for hair loss prevention
  • Enrich diet with protein
  • Scalp massage with essential oils.
  • Avoid brushing wet hair.
  • Avoid constant heating and drying.
  • De- stress

  1. How can one do to grow hair?

In many cases, people can improve the strength and overall health of their hair by using treatments and various home remedies. Similarly, using prescribed medication, tropical treatments and natural remedies can help in a person’s hair growth.

  1. Is shampooing regularly good?

Shampooing is good until it is overused. But if you work it all the way down the length of your hair, shampoo can damage your hair. Shampoo strips the important oils the scalp produces and can leave the hair and scalp too dry. To prevent this, you should only shampoo the roots of your hair and leaved your hair ends. This is because the ends will be cleaned when you rinse the shampoo out of your roots.

  1. Can blow drying after every wash damage the scalp and cause more hair fall?

Yes, blow drying your hair regularly can cause immense damage to your hair in long run if you do not take some proper precautions.

If you have to dry your hair, then you can try to dry hair in front of a high watt table fan. And if you want to style your hair with it, then, try to use that air fan the fan and a brush to style your hair. You can alternatively use this heat energy the hair brush generates while combing your hair to style.

We also asked Meera Kakshapati, Miss Nepal International 2019 and Malina Joshi, Miss Nepal World 2011. Let’s look at what they have to say.

Meera’s answer: My hair care routine is super simple. I always make sure to oil my hair before taking a shower. And I have recently started using Lizap’s products. And I can see beautiful changes in my hair already.

And for hair fall control, using beer on our hair is a great remedy. It makes your hair soft, shiny and also controls the hair fall. It has been my holy grail for yearsssss now!

Malina’s answer: My hair started to fall when I got into the movie industry where I had to do various styling as per my characters almost every day. My hair was exposed to excessive heat and I colored it every three months. On top of it, I was way too careless to take care of my hair as I was blessed with good genes. I have a naturally black straight hair. With time, my hair started to fall. It became dry and frizzy. I started to take care of my hair with a simple hair oil massage once a month which wasn’t enough for the damage I had done to my hair. So I started doing a hair oil massage a day before I had to wash my hair.

I prefer mixing my castor oil with cold pressed virgin coconut oil. I use mustard oil once in a week. I apply fermented rice water after the hair oil massage and leave it for couple of hours or overnight. Rice water helps you in hair growth and volume as well. I use hair masks after every hair wash with the shampoo. Also, hair serums are also equally important.

All in all, most importantly, avoid heat. During the lockdown, forget about curling irons, I even avoided hair dryers. And I’m taking a break from hair colors for at least two more years.
