Summer season is around the corner. Sweat and Oily skin problems are definitely on the way. In conversation with Mrs. Srijana Gautam, the beautician at Kathmandu Hair and Beauty Salon, we talk about unoiling the skin.

  1. Can you please let us know something about oily skin?
Your skin gets oily when there is excessive sebum from the sebaceous gland. The gland is located just under your skin. It is kind of like fats and wax. Oily skin helps preserve moisture. However, they bring a lot of other issues.

 2. What are the causes of oily skin?
A bad diet, excessive use of dairy products, chocolates, fried items, and unhealthy food makes the sebaceous gland overproduce the sebum, which causes oily skin. Especially in summer, your pores are open from sweat, and your skin is heated. As a result, you get Oily skin.

3. Are there any ways people with oily skin can follow to unoil their skin?

Yes! You can control the oily skin.

- Cleanse your skin regularly.

- Avoid using Alcohol-based skin products.

- Make sure your skin products have Salicylic acid.

- Use Blotting papers often throughout the day.

- Moisturize your face regularly.

- Your Moisturizer must have Zinc Oxide and Titanium Oxide.

- Use face packs. (with Green Tea)

4. What are the problems that come with oily skin?

- Oily skin brings lots of problems. If you have experienced or seen it, you may also know that oily skin looks shiny and greasy. People with oily skin have large pores on the skin. Along with that, pimples, clogged pores, and blackheads are the main problems of Oily skin. As a beautician, I have faced issues finding makeup that suits their skin. The sebum easily mixes with makeup and gives a very uneven non-lasting makeup.

 5. How do people identify oily, dry or combination skin?

- If you go to a dermatologist, they can tell you. However, you can find that out at home as well. If your T-zone is more likely to get oily, you get more breakouts, greasy skin, and larger pores, and you might have oily skin. If your skin seems rougher, flaky, tight, itchy, or irritated, you might have dry skin. The combination of skin means when your T-zone is oily where the cheeks are dry or normal.

6. Have you ever encountered issues with people with oily skin? How do you deal with such skin?

- Of course! When one has oily skin, the major problem is doing their makeup. Their skin can easily mix with the sebum, and the makeup looks inconsistent. Hence, for such skin, I use oil-free makeup products. Priming their skin first always works best. I avoid powder as much as possible or use it only in specific areas.
