Bamboozled Politics

The idea of how to transform the country of Mount Everest and Buddha and its geographical and cultural beauty as a way to overcome poverty should be the first issue to take the reins of today's political regime.

People who read today's Smart Family should not believe in the development of tourism without knowing what makes the country unique and making it safe and convenient.

A multi-faced politician comes and says that he will make Nepal like Singapore or Switzerland in so many years and we applaud him and trust him and vote for him. Have we ever internalized the fact about what it takes to make something out of something?

If we are trying to do something in order to get back on our feet as soon as possible after overcoming the abnormal situation created by COVID pandemic, thinking that the first good step would be to think about tourism promotion and self-employment. Innovative entrepreneurship is what Nepal is looking for an abundance of possibilities are there as blessings.

The history of some countries about how did they evolve and travelled into the recent modern nation shows a lot of unique but factual achievements that have engulfed the whole country into prosperity, as we read, walk around, amaze us. Switzerland, a small country with a population of less than 9 million, is standing tall in the world with its own stakes, exporting sixty billion dollars’ worth chocolates & some sixty-five billion dollars’ worth watches. Be that as it may, Nepal's entire one-year budget is 16 to 17 billion dollars including substantial amount of loan and aid.

If we continue to be in political turmoil, keep practicing the most common absurdness like: splitting a ministry into two / three just for the sake of power sharing and we keep voting for those who are involved in immoral income, we will sooner or later disappear from this world picture as a country and we will no more be recognized as Nepalese.

One more “way of life” that we seem to be tolerating, is listening speeches and actively participating in the absurd political drama as spectators.  He would go for an hour to explain what would he be doing when he gets into the power and the end results are same for all and that is - not even a decimal point of it is not going to be executed or will work. Let’s create a movement not to listen to such nonsense speeches and let’s make people understand there is nothing to applaud in his content.

People can say from one hundred to 150 words in a minute, with that, up to 750 words in 5 minutes. Now tell me how many hours your leaders speak. This article will be about 8/900 words where so many contexts are covered, even more so the seasoned writer can say many things using few words. Hence, we must start dejecting long speeches of even “so called good” politicians.

You may agree with me; it is already too late for us to show our assertive concerns about certain very important aspects of livelihood.

Have we been able to conserve and promote the thousands of lakes we have? We are hoping for prosperity by constructing a road unscientifically to cause the landslide inevitable, clearing the forest and allowing unplanned human settlement. We are witnessing mushrooming unhygienic canteens selling alcohol, all along the highways (are they really highways?) and still expect a great civic sense from drunken drivers.

It is as if the sea water quenches the thirst, hoping that development and innovation will gain importance when the peace and tranquility of the country is shattered by the incidents of basically politics promoted/ protected raids, looting and killings.

How many of us give a damn about the country's increasing crime rate and the politically supported impunity? When we turn on the TV, we see the leaders who have blown their noses that we are more amazing than the country which is gripped by crime-industry!

Have we ever thought of those brilliant minds and those young people who have been forced to choose the path of escape after realizing that the series of government’s hopeless performance on promoting and investing in innovation? After all, they might have thought, why waste precious life stuck in the jargons of these good for nothing lot.

I think the youth of Nepal should raise a loud voice for improving the quality of life of the citizens who are afflicted with contaminated food and drinking water, who do not have access to nutritious food, who do not get treatment for the disease and who cannot bear the financial burden if they get it, else it seems it will never gain importance in this country.

Singapore and Switzerland, two countries that are heard from our politicians as their dream that they would make Nepal one day, are both considered to be strong for higher education. For that, they have spent huge resources on educational environment and system development. They are world’s leader in innovation and provide great quality of lives to their citizenry. We all know, in our country, these corrupt politicians have made educational institution their source of earning at the cost of quality education.

Finally, my message to Nepalese youth is that, you are the front-liner of the struggle to build Nepal a better place to live, remember the lesson the pandemic has left for us that we need to change to change our future and all the young generation must actively participate for the change. Let’s prove our generation was the best generation of the era.

Happy new year 2022!
