Nepal Wildlife Facts
Nepal is blessed with natural beauty, the birth place of Lord Budhha, home to diverse caste and culture and painted with the most beautiful peaks of the world. From giant animals to small birds, Nepal has a wide range of wildlife in it.
Nepal, also known as “Amazon of Asia” is diverse in both flora and fauna. Nepal wildlife includes the greater one-horned rhinoceros, Red panda, Bengal Tiger, Himalayan Tahr, blue sheep, snow leopard and Danphe (National bird of Nepal) although it only occupies just 0.1% of the land mass of world.
One of the best ways to explore Wildlife in Nepal is the National Parks. They are worth to visit and are quite fascinating. There are 12 National parks in Nepal. With 12 National Parks, 1 Wildlife Reserve, 1 Hunting Reserve, 6 Conservation Areas, and 13 Buffer Zones extending from lowland Terai to high mountains, covering 23.39 % of the total country's land, which contribute to in-situ conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity across the country, Nepal has established a very good network of Protected Areas system. Conservation efforts made by the government of Nepal is worldwide popular and highly recognized by the international societies.
There are various unique animals and some of them are very rare. Talking about the only animal found in Nepal, The Spiny Babbler takes this place and this species is only endemic to Nepal. Some very endangered species like the Chinese Pangolin and the Indian Pangolin are also found in Nepal. Other animals like The One-horned Rhino, Bengal Tiger, Asian Elephant, Gharial and many more are found in the wildlife of Nepal too.
Nepal has doubled the number of Tiger in the country and is the only country that has come closer to achieving this goal. From 121 Tigers in 2010, by now there are almost 240 Tigers in Nepal.
