Improvising Flooring Choices
A new floor can change the entire look of the room with that finding the perfect style of flooring for each room in your house is the key. But your new floor must be more than just being stylish, it is important to consider the needs of your home to ensure that your flooring is the best match for your room and budget.
The kitchen is the main gathering areas in any home and here moisture protection and durability are of big considerations. The floor requires being moisture protected. Tile is water-proof and very durable with a lot of design options available but it can sometimes be unforgiving to drop dishes. For a good budget-friendly alternative to tile, vinyl is easier to install and looks and feels like real tile. Hardwood is an increasingly popular kitchen choice. Although it isn’t as durable or as water-proof as tile, it still looks great and can add value to your home. An alternative to hardwood is laminate flooring. Laminate is manufactured to look like real wood but are more resistant to scratches and dents.
Another busy room is the living room. The main concern here isn’t moisture but rather durability and comfort. For that reason carpet is a popular choice. It is soft, warm and inviting. It is easy to install out of all our sub-floor types but it does not resist all stain types. They may need to be periodically steam cleaned too. Hardwood is more durable to traffic and spill-wise can be wiped up easily. They come in a lot of styles with wide range of prices and while scratches and dents are in concern, hardwoods can add value and warmth to the room. Alternatives to hardwood can be engineered wood or laminate wood floors. Engineered wood is made up with a fiber board core with hardwood face. It retains the natural wood look but it is more durable than hardwood.
The bathroom won’t see as much traffic as the kitchen or the living room but it still needs to strike a balance between utility and beauty. Controlling moisture is the major concern in bathrooms. Vinyl flooring is water proof, stains proof and is budget friendly. It is easy to install and easy to clean and has come a long way in texture and design that look like a real tile. Ceramic tile floor is also water proof and has a great classic look. Tile can be more durable than a vinyl but it is more time consuming to install and can be cold on you bare feet unless you have a heated floor underneath. There is even tile that looks like hardwood. This flooring combines the beauty of hardwood with the durability and moisture-protection of tile.
