Mirrors are often understated, but they actually play an integral role in your house and can change the entire look of a room.

A mirror may just be a shiny surface that reflects anything and everything but its proper usage can make it an integral part of the modern interiors. Their usage is not limited to bedrooms and bathrooms; nowadays we increasingly see them in living rooms, hotel lobbies, and even in restaurants. According to Vastru Shastra (traditional science of architecture) also there are many relations between mirrors and with our fortune and well-being. But in this article we will rather talk about how mirrors can enhance any type of interior setting.

  • It gives illusion of a larger room: The reflection due to a mirror in a small room makes the room look larger than it is. A giant ceiling to floor mirror would be most suitable in a small room especially if it is placed without any obstruction from furniture.

  • It increases lighting: Mirrors reflect light, whether its sunlight or artificial light. Because of this property, rooms with small windows and fewer lamps can be brightened in a very cost effective through proper use of mirror.

  • It increases the glamour factor: A mirror has always been a symbol of allure and glamour, especially if it has elegant frames.  Mirror frames with mosaic tiles and metallic shine echo a royal touch. Places like hotel lobbies and restaurants primarily use mirrors to increase the glamour factor.

  • It covers up imperfections: If there are paint stains, holes or small chips on the wall then mirrors can be used to cover them up and make the space look perfect. Certainly paintings and picture frames are also an option, but mirrors can be a less expensive alternative. A bigger sized mirror, if space permits, is ideal for this purpose.

  • It gives out positive aura: The use of a mirror of right shape and size in the right position release positive aura, which helps to lighten up the viewer’s mood, and gives a tranquil ambience to the room.

The above mentioned benefits are contingent upon the use of mirrors with shape, size, and frame that complement the setting. While mirrors are now an integral part of interior decoration, you should not forget its most practical use, which is to let you appreciate how beautiful you look.
