Situation, status, income and place compel us to compromise the decision of our car size.

Driving a car in Kathmandu can be an annoying task.  The government is making an effort to expand the roads but the rapid increase in the number of vehicles has led to chaotic traffic jam on a daily basis.  Hence, people are compelled to think twice before buying a car or any other vehicles.  As a customer, you obviously need to do your homework by going through the basic features of the vehicle that you plan to buy such as the size of the vehicle. However, in an overcrowded city like Kathmandu there many factors need to be considered before purchasing car, including its size.

According to the report from the Department of Transport Management, the number of cars, vans, and jeeps registered by 2073 BS in Nepal has reached approximately 192,028.  What is worrisome is the fact that the number of car owners in the nation is gradually increasing annually.

Buying a car or any other vehicle is not an easy task.  Like any other investment a thorough study is needed before a final decision is reached.

Firstly, it's important to analyze your budget and figure out the amount that you would have left after paying off the expenses incurred to cover your basic needs.  Set a monthly savings goal which will help you get your desired vehicle within a time. There are facilities for vehicle loans through different banks, as well.

Secondly, you should also consider the expenses that you would incur after the purchase of the vehicle. We all know that even a small scratch can prove out to be quite costly for us.  Not just that, expenses incurred for maintenance, blue book renewal, and tax fees are also high in comparison to other small vehicles such as bikes and scooters.  Hence, cars are considered as luxurious items here, but ironically when you are stuck in your car in a heavy traffic, and you see a smaller vehicle, usually a motorbike, zoom past you, what you considered a luxury suddenly starts to appear like a major drawback.

Thirdly, people should consider while choosing their vehicle is the parking spaces available in Kathmandu. We all know that finding a good parking space for our vehicle in busy areas, such as Durbarmarg, Newroad and Thamel, is almost an impossible task.  Smaller cars can easily fit in a small and congested space, whereas it is difficult to find a parking space for SUVs.  But for long and off-road drives, bigger vehicles are what you should be driving.
