As much as we are excited about hogging the food, at this festival, we must equally keep our health into account. Our traditional food revolves around red meat, and we always feel stuffed and indigested during the festivity.

The festive month is knocking on the door, and we are all prepared for the family get-togethers, food, and lots of meat. The tradition of consuming red meat runs from generation to generation, especially during festivals. Even though red meat lovers tend to strike a balance in their daily diet, during festive times, that seems to slip off. Today, let’s see how the excess consummation of red meat leads us to downscale the healthy body.

Heart disease and diabetes:

The consummation of red meat in huge amounts is linked with heart disease. Red meat has a high level of saturated fat boosting cholesterol levels and they are high in sodium, which is not very ideal when it comes to a healthy diet causing heart disease and type 2 diabetes. So, even during festive times, make sure that you are considering a balanced diet.

Cancer development:

You can find Haem in red meat, which is likely to damage cells and cause bacteria in the body to produce harmful chemicals, increasing the risk of colorectal cancer. So, this time let’s replace red meats with white meats, and don’t forget to eat lots of fruits and water side by side.

Weight gain:

Red meats are very calorie-dense which might cause you to gain weight. Especially, during festivals, if you are putting gym off or any other physical movement, there is a high chance for you to weigh higher. They are high in protein and fats which can promote weight gain.

Are red meats necessary?

  • Not to forget, Red meat has a wide range of health benefits when consumed in moderation. However, Red meats are not necessarily the only way to get in those nutrients. For example, red meats are high in iron, which you can easily get from white meats, eggs, fish, and nuts. Limiting the red meat in your diet to 1 or 2 servings per week is fine.

Ways to cut back on red meats:

  • Take breaks from meats.
  • Choose alternatives.
  • Start replacing with white meat or fish.
  • Incorporate more veggies, greens, and nuts.

Change starts from home, from an individual. This year, let’s not red meat dominate the whole food items. If you have noticed, digestion problems and constipation are often very disturbing during festive times. Cutting off red meats is not only for the environment but also for your health. So, have you decided on substituting red meats?
