Back in the early 2000, When bean coffee was not as popular as today, one of my friends took me to the Himalayan Java Coffee House, Thamel.

In 2012, when I left my job, I wanted to start a coffee shop business and I took an extensive 15 days Professional Barista course. The project didn't click but my extended knowledge extracted the coffee lover from me afterwards.

To cut the long story short, recently one of my friends suggested that I start a content platform for coffee lovers like me. That's the story of how I created my Instagram Handle @madaboutespresso for coffee lovers from where I could share my little knowledge through coffee shop reviews.

I am not a connoisseur, I am not a coffee addict, I am a coffee lover

1. Arabica Coffee, Teendhara Durbarmarg

Taste: A mild earthy aroma welcomes you with a thin crema. When you slur and locate it gives you a medium-body feel on your palate. Zero acidity and no sourness left after you finish the coffee. Overall, the coffee gives you a light and smooth experience.

Personally, I would have preferred a bit stronger coffee.

Ambience: A good coffee shop to hang out with friends in the warm indoor couch sittings and small outdoor lane which faces the roadside. You can also feel the strong aroma of coffee as they have their own coffee roastery @arabicoffeeroastery.

Beans: @arabicacoffeebeans

Coffee: Americano

Rating: 4/5

Price: NPR 135/-

(It is probably one of the most pocket-friendly coffee shops around the Durbarmarg area to hang out regularly for coffee lovers like me)

2. Nutopia Craft, Tea & Coffee Shop, Swatha, Patan Durbar square

Taste: Strong aroma with the perfect balance of acidity and bitterness offers you the perfect cup of Hand Drip - V60 coffee. Zero acidity but a strong black coffee experience is the absolute substitute for those who were having #InstantCoffee

Ambience: It's a small and cosy coffee shop with some local crafts displayed on the wall. A  nice place to have a coffee around one of the corners of @heritagesites @patandurbarsquare which is a perfect place for tourists and a perk for locals as well.

Beans: @redcherrycoffeebeans Medium Roast

Coffee: V60

Rating: 4/5

3. Deli AKUJ (illy cafe), Gairidhara

Taste: The aroma is quite overwhelming with the earthy smell. While you slur, a bit of sweetly sour taste remains on your palate. It compliments with a medium body taste and there is nothing to complain about the coffee. Overall an excellent experience for a coffee lover.

Ambience: Located in a quiet part of the city (Baluwatar) is one of the best things about the cafe. Artistically well-designed, comfortable, and good for both leisure and business meeting is the architectural catch of the cafe designer. The cafe has enough greenery and a small parking area too.

4. Himalayan Java, Labim Mall

Taste: The aroma was wonderful even in the open space. A perfect blend of well-extracted espresso and hot water makes a perfect Americano. Additionally, well-balanced bitterness with zero acidity is the trademark of @himalayanjava for strong black coffee. The barista girl at the outdoor kiosk has a perfect hand for the job and is very good at hospitality. One of the best coffee at a Himalayan Java Outlet.

Ambience: It's really good to have a perfect cup sitting below the glass roof while raining. Watching the activities of the mall is another perk of the location. A perfect place for your private moments

Beans: Himalayan Java

Coffee: Americano

Rating: 4.5/5

Price: NPR 230

5. Karma Coffee

Taste: Unlike most black coffee it doesn't give you a bitter taste while you slur and locate on your palate. Overall the earthy flavour gives you a superb meditative feeling while you sip your strong black coffee.

Ambience: @kar.macoffeenepal is one of the best options around Boudha for #v60 coffee. The coffee shop is surrounded by an ample amount of outdoor green space with a small indoor sitting merged with an artisan interior. Sit alone and enjoy your coffee in a peaceful green environment

Beans: Karma Coffee

Coffee: V60

Rating 4.5/5

6. Crazy Yeti, Boudha

Taste: A thick layer of crema welcomes you with a floral aroma. Only fresh roasted beans produce good crema. Well-balanced acidity with the strong taste of coffee is a good treat for coffee lovers. The barista should work on the process to avoid a sense of bitterness.

Ambience: when you enter the cafe it gives you a bright and warm atmosphere. A perfect place to enjoy coffee, a bakery, and other foods with friends and family. It Is located near Boudha, a good destination for tourists as well.
