Opium restaurant and bar is situated in the heart of Kathmandu, on the busy lanes of Durbar Marg at Sherpa Mall. Although it’s a newly established, Opium Restaurant and bar has already built a reputation amongst food lovers as a one stop destination to try out a wide variety of cuisines from different countries.

The ambience of the place is suitable for family outings or get together with your friends. Their food menu includes the best of Nepali, North-Indian, Chinese (Cantonese and Sichuan), Thai and European (Italian, French and Spanish) dishes.

Although the restaurant is new, the service here doesn’t disappoint at all. We opted for the Chicken Belle Momo which is a signature dish of the restaurant. The momos were delicious. It was served in a steamer bamboo box with tomato pickle. It was delicious and is definitely a must try here.

We then tried some of the Indian dishes that were recommended by the staff of the restaurant. The chicken biryani we ordered was served with raita (an Indian dish made with yogurt and vegetables), papad, and pickle.The biryani was not too heavy with spices, and yet the aroma of the biryani was rich and authentic. Furthermore, the chicken pieces were tender and juicy. Overall, all the ingredients were perfectly balanced. 

The next dish served was the chicken butter masala. The chicken was perfectly marinated with yoghurt and spices and the gravy was creamy and full of flavor. We chose to devour the curry with some naan, (leavened and baked in a tandoor) although you could choose to have it with rice as well.  

This place will definitely leave your taste buds tickling and it is a must visit if you, like us, love food.
