The combination of the garden’s refreshing aura with the restaurant’s delectable food works really well, giving the guests a very pleasant experience at the restaurant from the moment they step in.

After having shifted from Lazimpat, Pauline’s Garden has been running for exactly a year now in the alley of Anek Marg in Baluwatar. This French restaurant is truly one of the very few hidden gems in town with its exquisite European dishes that tantalize your taste buds. The beautiful setting makes you forget the hustle and bustle of the city.

On the right hand side of the entrance gate is a petite one story building where all the magic happens. This building houses as an open kitchen along with a place to sit on top of the roof. On the left hand side is a small parking spot for two wheelers, next to the restaurant. Once you enter the garden, you are filled with an instant sense of relaxation of being surrounded by the luscious greenery and fresh air; which everyone living in Kathmandu, or ‘Dhulomandu’, will definitely appreciate. Straight ahead from the gate is the house where Pauline resides with a few other tenants, however, the house is not a part of the restaurant. Only the porch serves as a space for a table. When going further into the garden towards the left, there is a kiosk in the corner, which is a sort of a skene (stages in Greek theatres), that is surrounded by Greek columns giving it a more authentic European vibe and making visitors forget where they actually are.

The “Grilled Prawns” is one of the most famous dishes of the restaurant. The prawns are served skewered with toothpicks and neatly lined in a row while placed on top of a special sauce. The “Grilled Prawns” is, without a doubt, the best prawn dish to be served in Kathmandu and is one of the dishes you should most definitely try out when visiting.

Pauline has a variety of dishes in the restaurant which consist mainly of cheese. The “Cheese Platter” includes four different types of cheese to try out and is another dish that you should absolutely order. This dish is made up of Camembert cheese, Tome cheese, and Saint Marcelin cheese. The cheese is served in chunks and is accompanied with cream cheese and grilled bread.

Pauline buys from her brother who makes local cheese made in Nepal. All the produce she buys for her restaurant is local as she firmly believes in supporting the local growers of the community. An interesting addition to the garden restaurant is that Pauline plans to grow some of the herbs at the restaurant itself. Though this plan has not started yet, this creativity puts more use to the garden.
