Sometimes a warm, crispy slice of bread with fun toppings makes the most satisfying snack, meal, or appetizer. All it takes is a toaster and these recipes to take your next slice of toast to the next level. You can always prefer whole-grain bread for added fiber but I say live liberal?
- Moroccan guacamole toast with eggs:
What is not to like about fried eggs and guacamole. Together, they make a pretty rich combination,
Requirements:
- 1 ripe avocado, halved and pitted
- 1/8 lemon juice
- 2 thick slices of whole-grain bread
- 2 eggs
- Pinch of salt
First, scoop avocado flesh into a bowl with squeeze of lime, lightly mash them together to make guacamole, season with salt. Toast your bread the way you like. Fry your eggs suuny-side-up. Spread guacamole onto your bread as much as you prefer, topping it off with the eggs. Sprinkle salt and pepper as finishing touch.
- Mushroom bruschetta with balsamic vinegar:
Make mushrooms an irresistible taste with slash of balsamic vinegar piled up over a toast bruschetta slightly rubbed with garlic to make this a great breakfast, light lunch or a perfect appetizer only under 10 minutes.
Requirements:
- 400g mushrooms (button mushroom)
- 3 tbsp olive oil to cook with
- 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
- Salt and pepper
- Half clove of garlic, unpeeled
- Slices of bread (bruschetta)
Start by heating olive oil in a large frying pan over high heat. Toss in quarter sliced mushrooms into the pan and quickly sauté for about a minute or two. Add in the balsamic vinegar and sugar stirring for just 30 seconds. Rub garlic onto slices of bruschetta then simply pile up with mushrooms. Serve quickly as possible.
- Caprese toast :
The fresh roasted tomatoes with creamy mozzarella and a lovely drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette is not only feast to your tummy but also to your eyes. Fantasize toast with this simple caprese salad recipe with:
- 4-6 slices of French bread
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- ¼ cup freshly grated preferable cheese
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp pepper
- ½ cup cherry tomatoes, halved and roasted
- 1 clove minced garlic
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp balsamic vinegar
- 100 grams of mozzarella cheese sliced.
Toast bread for 5 minute or until golden brown. In a small bowl, mix in ricotta (any preferable cheese) salt and pepper and set it aside. In another bowl, mix together roasted tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Spread one-fourth ricotta mixture on each slice of bread topping it with slice of mozzarella cheese. Add the tomato mixture on top of mozzarella, bake toast for 8 to 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Serve hot with fresh garnish.
- Cinnamon toast:
The idea of melting butter with syrups of honey with cinnamon will take you back to your childhood.
Requirements:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tsp honey
- 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch of salt
- 4 slice toast
Simply melt butter in a small saucepan over low heat, stir in honey, cinnamon and salt. Brush each slice with this sweet butter and serve while still warm.
- Ricotta cheese with strawberries and honey:
Subtle, creamy ricotta toasts are a perfect means of highlighting summer’s ripest strawberries with a little zest of lemon, to make an elegant yet simple appetizer.
Requirements:
- 4 slices of French bread, toasted
- ½ cup ricotta cheese
- -1 tsp lemon zest
- Salt and freshly cracked pepper
- 6-7 fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- Honey
In a small bowl stir together ricotta, lemon zest and pepper to taste. Spread each slice of toasted bread with this mixture, layer strawberries slices over top of the ricotta. Sprinkle with rough salt and pepper, then drizzle with honey to serve.
