What Not to Feed Your Furry Buddies
Who can avoid those puppy eyes and goofy grins? Can a little reward off the table hurt your dog? It depends on what the little rewards are. Some people-food can be more harmful than do any good to your pet. Here are the lists of few foods that are harmful to your pets
- Chocolates, Coffee and Tea
The methylxanthines, theobromine, and caffeine found in chocolate, coffee and tea are dangerous treat for the dog. Eating such food items can cause vomiting, diarrhea. It is also toxic to the heart and nervous systems of your pet.
- Dairy and Milk products
Dogs are lactose intolerant. So feeding them dairy products can result in smelly farts, diarrhea, and vomiting.
- Fish
If high amounts of raw, canned or cooked fish can are fed to your dog it can lead to loss of appetite, seizures and in severe cases –death.
- Raw meat
Raw meat contains bacteria such as Salmonella and E. coli, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea. So feeding raw meat diet for dogs is a big no.
- Raw eggs
Raw eggs contain avidin, which decreases the absorption of biotin -Vitamin B which can lead to skin, and hair coat problems and neurologic abnormalities. So feeding raw egg to dogs should be avoided.
- Bones
The cooked bones can easily cause splinter when chewed by your dog. The bones can cause obstruction in their digestive system.
- Raisins and Grapes
They contain an unknown toxin, which can damage the kidneys. And just a small amount can make your dog ill.
- Onions and garlic (raw, cooked, or powder)
They contain sulfoxides and disulfides, which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia.
- Corn on the cob
This item is not toxic but hazardous. The corn is can be digested, but the cob can get stuck in the intestines, and if it’s not removed surgically, can prove to be fatal to your dog. Too much corn kernels can also upset the digestive tract.
Salty food, sugary food and drinks, chewing gum, cold medicines and painkillers are among the other foods to be avoided. Instead feed the dogs healthy amount of lean meat, fresh fruit, vegetables such as carrot sticks, green beans, cucumber slices, or zucchini slices, cooked white rice, pasta and roti.
