Aloft Kathmandu Thamel Becomes First 5-Star Hotel in Nepal to Receive 'Waste Smart Certificate'

Aloft Kathmandu Thamel has been awarded the prestigious Waste Smart Certificate by Creasion Ventures Inc. in collaboration with Creasion
Nepal is becoming the first 5-star hotel in Nepal to receive this recognition for its outstanding commitment to sustainability through plastic waste recycling initiatives and the promotion of inclusive livelihood opportunities.
This recognition follows the hotel’s recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Navish Nepal Pvt. Ltd., in collaboration with Creasion Ventures Inc., to implement a structured plastic waste collection and recycling program. The initiative ensures the regular and responsible collection of plastics and bottles, with all materials recycled following national environmental standards and best practices.
Immediately after signing the MoU, Aloft Kathmandu Thamel initiated the program and completed its first official handover of plastic waste, including bottles and used wet amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, and bath gel containers. “This collaboration reflects our belief that environmental responsibility, especially under Marriott International’s Serve 360, is a core part of hospitality,” said Vikram Singh, General Manager of Aloft Kathmandu Thamel. “We are proud to take the lead in setting new sustainability standards in Nepal.”
The partnership also supports inclusive livelihood creation, with plans to repurpose recycled materials into eco-souvenirs for hotel guests and explore further circular solutions, including the recycling of old uniforms.
