Learning Begins at Home
Parents want the best for their children. They will spare no expense to get the best of the best of their kids. So naturally they will go all out to invest in something as important as their kids’ education. But sending your children to the “best” school will not necessarily ensure they will learn and be a good human in the future. A school can teach the children only so much. The real lessons that will shape your kids’ personality are taught at home by parents. An old saying correctly, “Parents are your first teachers.” Parents teach us everything from walking and talking, to distinguishing between right and wrong.
True learning begins at home; inside those four walls of comfort. A parent is there in the children’s life from day one, and is the first person they see when they open their eyes in this strange world. He/she is the most important and influential being in their lives. The actions as a parent you take will affect them, and stick with them throughout their life, especially when they are in an impressionable age, when they are just developing their ability to understand and grasp their surroundings. In that curious age feed them with knowledge and instill good habits in them. If they haven’t started formal schooling, create an environment where they can learn, grow and make mistakes. Start teaching the children basics, such as alphabets and how to count, and prep them for pre-school or kindergarten. Tell them bedtime stories, or create stories with them, and teach them rhymes. Instill the idea that learning can be fun from an early age, and they will appreciate the opportunity to learn at school so much more, when they eventually join one. Stay involved in your kids’ life even after they go to school. Ask them about school, help them in their projects. School provides book knowledge, but you as a parent teach the children lessons of life and guide them to live a happy life. What you teach your children and how you interact with them will determine whether or not they grow up to be decent humans. In all likelihood they will make you proud, if their “true” learning began at home.
