Shital and Subani Moktan are like any other sisters. Similar in many ways, yet different as day and night. They never share clothes, for they have completely different preferences, but they share their opinions on clothes with each other. Continue reading
A sister–sister relationship is usually a love–hate relationship, but it is also special in many ways. Like myself, anyone who has a sister would agree to the above statement. When it comes to my sister, I may fight with her 24/7 but the moment anyone points finger at her, I will be the first one to stand beside her to defend her. Having a sister is like having a best friend with you all time, you are never alone. Sisters are always there with you to share your happy moments, and wipe your tears during difficult times. Your sister will likely be with you for some of your best memories, but also have a distinct ability for getting under your skin.
Sisters are blessings in disguise. They pamper you, let your little secrets out and embarrass you, knock you, stir you, drive you nuts, snub you -- they are meant to be this way. Yet they are so protective, especially the elder ones, as they will not let a thing that could potentially harm. For those of us with sisters, it is an absolute pain to be with them, yet again it is impossible to imagine our lives without them. You might be having a third World War with your sister at one moment, and then acting like the best of friends within a blink of an eye; whatever act you are in, a sister–sister relationship is never dull.
Here are some of the practical reasons why you got to love your sisters:
Borrow things – Having a sister means you double the clothes you have as long as you have the same taste and also have one extra purse to dip into when you are need of money. But do not forget, your sister is also more likely to steal your things, and will possibly never return them.
Get along with each other well – Growing up in the same home and sharing similar situations means you understand each other better than almost anyone else. Sisters are midnight companions who know when you are weeping even in the dark.
Comprehend family issues – Whatever family issues come your way, you can absolutely count on your sibling sister comprehend family issues and explain them to you. Since both of you live in the same house, she can feel exactly the same the way you are feeling.
Partners in crime – This is the best part of having a sister, because you have someone to go to when you need to pull off a notorious plan. She is your witness, she knows all your mischief and yet loves you infinitely.
Shopping partner – Sisters can be an incredible shopping partners, especially when you share similar styles, and as you can count on her to tell you the truth when you make a fashion mistake.
Best advisor – Having a sister around is good when you need an advice. Whether it is your homework or any other concern, they are always willing to help you out. Whenever you are in major dilemma, just go to your sister, she will always listen to you and give you the sincerest advice.
Here we asked a sister duo Shital Moktan and Subani Moktan about their relationship.
Shital Moktan and Subani Moktan
Born in the famous musical family of Sila Bahadur Moktan and Kunti Moktan, Shital and Subani are no new names in Nepali pop music industry. Shital is currently working at Nepal Administrative Staff College, whereas her younger sister Subani is very much into media.
Sisters Shital and Subani are lively and, through the interview, it became evident that they are also very close. By their own admissions Subani is outgoing and bubbly, whereas Shital is somber and serene. For an outsider it appears as if they hardly have anything in common except for their surname and their beautiful soprano voices, and everything else about them is different. Let’s find out.
The best thing about being sisters
Shital: The best thing is that you can always ask for opinions on clothes and sometimes share things.
Subani: Well, you can tell your sister what looks bad on her (laughs).
Any memory of your school days
Shital: Not every day, but sometimes I literally had to push Subani to the school bus stand as she used to sit and play with stray dogs while on our way to school bus stand, because of which we would sometimes miss our school bus.
While growing up who bullied whom?
Subani:I think we both bullied each other. We used to fight a lot. (“We still do” adds Shital, and laughs)
Ever took pocket money from your sister?
Subani: I remember Shital used to hold a tab for me when we were in school. I never had enough money but I wanted to eat a lot, so I would borrowed a lot of money from her.
Do you ever fight or argue?
Shital: Since we were huge fans of wrestling during our childhood we used to have similar kinds of massive fights, which we do not continue anymore (hahaha). But now we do not get much time to share with each other due to our work.
Subani: We argue sometimes, but it does not get prolonged. I just go out of the room. We have learnt to accept our differences so we can let go things and enjoy our relationship.
What is that one quality of your sister you wish you had?
Shital: She can make really nice songs and write good lyrics. She is very creative. I wish I had that quality.
Subani: She is very hard–working and I am quite lazy, so maybe bit I would like to have a bit of her diligence.
