“Hokkaido Ramen House” brings Japanese flavors to our country. The food, the place, the vibe, and the humble owner, manager, and working staff make you feel so welcomed. The fresh Ramen noodles and bento box lightens up your day with the perfect package o

There is food and there is Japanese cuisine. In a time where every aspect is getting a new touch and the world is getting explored, food is no exception. The different cultures, traditions, values and of course the taste of authentic food of different countries always seems fascinating. They say, “You are what you eat”. You don’t have to eat boiled foods to incorporate a healthy diet. The very concept is well embraced by Japanese people. This time, on our healthy food hunt, we came across one of the famous Japanese restaurants named “Hokkaido Ramen House '' which is located at park village resort, Budhanilakantha Kathmandu.

The name itself has the touch of Japanese flavor to it and I liked how they have used “house” which is a vibe of that place. “Hokkaido Ramen House” has been established as an emblem of Nepal-Japan Friendship to promote Japanese food via authentic Japanese-style cooking in 2019. They are the first-ever Japanese restaurant to have a Ramen production machine for them to always have fresh noodles with healthy ingredients.

Starting, when the dishes were brought to my sight, I was awestruck by the beautiful look of it. The first one was the ramen noodles, spicy miso ramen and miso ramen. The fact that they make the noodles right in the restaurant was already inciting for me. Never had I ever got a chance to try the fresh noodles but that day. The white bowl full of noodles, what else would I want?

 Spicy Miso Ramen:

“Miso” must be new word for so many people including me. Miso is a traditional Japanese seasoning produced by fermenting soybeans with salt and kōji and sometimes rice, barley, seaweed, or other ingredients. Spicy miso ramen sounded good. When they served us, it already got me drooling with the minced meat on the top of it, soft boiled egg cut in half, a few veggies, and lots of spice. The red spices made the noodles look so tasty whilst the aroma was making me impatient as the photos were being taken. The taste was interesting, like a volcano of so many flavors. I had to take a couple of bites to understand the whole combination of flavors. It was a little sweet, spicy, could taste like miso and was a little salty. The fresh ramen noodle was fully drenched in a creamy sauce and every bite had minced meat all over it. I must say that they do not skimp on any of the ingredients. It was a package of nutrition and a perfect combo of carbs, protein, and fat along with veggies on the side. Spicy miso ramen woke my sleeping nerve cell, to be honest, and I was just going on and on until it was all gone. I am looking forward to having that again.

Miso Ramen:

The miso ramen was different from spicy miso ramen. It was in a soupy form yet looked beautiful. The first thought when I saw the miso ramen was, “white theme” and I love white. The white bowl complemented the white ramen noodle well topped with chicken, pork, and soft-boiled egg. The greens alongside the other toppings made it look brighter and intriguing. The soup had a perfect taste of chicken broth, vegetables, and ground pork. Trust me when I say that you will feel refreshed with the miso ramen noodle as it is plainer and blander yet full of tasty flavors. The Miso Ramen was the absolute best for winter weather that warms up your body. If healthiness could be tasted, it would taste like warm Miso Ramen.

Bento box:

The most awaited and speciality of “Hokkaido Ramen House” was a Bento box. Being a person who loves little things, I was looking forward to the bento box. Do you remember the lunch box in school? I was pretty much like that, a single portion meal packed in a box, full of varieties of food. Bento box was the final dish that was on our table. It was composed of sticky rice, a few sushi, wasabi, ginger, salads, fried chicken, and dumplings. The portion was decent, and our belly was stuffed with all the noodles and bento box. The presentation was impressive, just picture perfect and the taste was amazing. I will be careful with the amount of wasabi to put on sushi next time though and I hope you do too. With a bento box being so handy and full of healthy items, you won’t have to worry about getting your greens and salads in.

The fresh Ramen noodles and all the fresh ingredients took every dish to the next level. “Hokkaido Ramen House” is keen to extend the presence and dimensions of Japanese Foods and hence, they have also introduced Teppanyaki Cooking in Nepal. This time we didn’t get a chance to experience the Teppanyaki. However, they are famous for sensational and world-famous food trends in Nepal by providing an elevated dining experience to the customers where they can trend have bar-style seating where a culinary expert makes a spectacular showcasing of sophisticated skills and flairs as in bartending, but with knives, forks, spatulas, and food items like eggs- cooking atop of the hot iron table for groups of friends and families, this gives a unique experience where the combination of interaction, entertainment, live display of culinary flair and most importantly the well-served delicacy of Japanese flavors and taste create invaluable memories worth cherishing.

For me, the humbleness of the manager, owner, and working staff was the highlight of the restaurant. The vibe and place were beautiful, and the authenticity of Japanese cuisine made the day quite an experience.
