The Comic Café
Children need a break from assignments and school to somewhere they love with their parents. we have found Nepal’s first anime-themed café that is dedicated to serving quality desserts and drinks. It is a very beautiful place that has got a vibe that ever
Anime is getting so much hype. So many people are into it and they can’t help but binge-watch it. Every anime lover might have dreamt of living in such a world. Hence, “The Comic Café” came up with the idea of combining comics, pop culture, anime theme, and café which is getting so much popularity these days. They have got varieties of bakery items and drinks and all taste absolute heaven.
If you know, you know. We are talking about anime here. How many of us are binge-watching thousands of episodes and not getting tired of it? (I am raising my hand by the way!). We often find ourselves watching anime and imagine living in such a place. How about I say that you can not only be in that world but chill and read comics of your favorite anime along with so many varieties of bakeries, coffee, and tea? Sounds brilliant, right?
The comic café, I think, is a uniquely beautiful idea for all the anime lovers out there. This time, we went to the very café located at Basantapur, Kathmandu. I stepped into a world of cartoons where everything was white with black outlines to make it seem like a monochromic theme. The black and white stripes on furniture and walls welcome the customers into a comic book illustration. On the bookshelf, you can find anime comics for you to enjoy while you are there. It allows you to go deeper into the world you love. The beautiful vibe is great, however, it being a café, we were concerned about the food items there. They let us try bakeries and bubble tea (their special item), and trust me when I say, we were mind blown.
- Bubble tea-
Bubble tea being their main specialty, they recommended us to try it. There were so many flavors, however, we went for the best-sold flavor which was Matcha and Blueberry. According to your preference, you can either have a hot or cold one. And to our surprise, the Tapioca Boba pearls in it were perfectly cooked, like a gummy bear, a touch of sweetness, not too overpowering, and complementing the bubble tea well. Matcha bubble tea was a subtler and of course soft green tea taste to it. It had a slightly earthy flavor served cold with milk which balanced out each other. The blueberry one was more flavorful in taste and a little sweeter. It had a mild light yet full of blueberry taste to it. The Boba pearls were making the tea fun to drink and it just felt right. 10 out of 10, highly recommended.
- Single Shot chocolate donut:
The combination of chocolate with donuts can never go wrong. Being a bakery fan, I was so looking forward to all the bakery items there. “Single-shot chocolate donut”, the name itself was intriguing and I was wondering if it will be chocolate-filled or chocolate donut with a shot of chocolate on the side to pour over it/dip into it. My jaw dropped when I saw it. There were so many things going on in that beautiful item. The donut was covered with chocolate with a chocolate syringe shot, on the plain white plate. The view right in front of me, I still cannot get over it. As soon as I bit into it, the chocolate oozed out to perfection, I admit that it was a little messy but who cares. Every bite was heavenly where the quality of it was screaming louder. I just cannot go back to have it again.
- Choco lava:
Do you ever find the difference between a chocolate brownie and Choco Lava except for the melted chocolate in the middle of it? Most of the time, I find it similar to what you are not supposed to. However, in the comic café, the Choco lava I had was just on the next level. Not exaggerating, but I could tell that they are using quality ingredients. It was moist like you are eating cookie dough but the soft version, unlike the brownie consistency and the gooey chocolate lava oozing out of it was mind-blowing. It was gone within a few minutes.
- Cheesecake:
The fourth dessert item was a perfectly sliced cheesecake. I loved the color of it and the way it looked so creamy and the top layer seemed crispy. It was the perfect combination of the tangy sour flavor of the cheese and a little sweet taste from the base layer of graham crackers/ digestive biscuit with lots of butter. Taste bud wanted a second slice of cheesecake but then it was so rich, heavy, and creamy that one slice was more than enough.
- Pika tart:
Of course, as the café is themed around anime and cartoons, their appearance was expected. Hence, the next was Pika tart. Pika tart was new to me, never heard of it; never tried it. The look resembled a cupcake yet the concept of it was different. The cup was a crispy biscuit kind of texture full of thick cream, outer layered with yellow mango sugar syrup topped with chocolate to make ears of Pikachu and nose of little chocolate chip. It tasted like happiness.
The owners knew that the new concept of anime and good food is not only the way to make customers happy. The vibe is what makes customers long to come back again and again. They were so friendly and polite with everyone which created comfort space for us and the customers as well. They also have anime-printed stickers, hoodies, cups, keyrings, postures, etc. the whole café itself has a very welcoming atmosphere and it is so beautiful that I just can't wait to go there again.
