Joba Knits, producers of quality Knitwear, not only keep people warm during winter but also give employment to women in Nepal. A great reason to support this local business.

Cozy Up Your Winter

With the clothing market booming, especially with the winter season kicking in, Smart Family spoke to Ms. Shreeya Kansakar, the creative mind behind Joba Knits, which brings local handmade knitwear products to the Nepalese market.

About Joba Knits

The idea for manufacturing knitwear products started back in 2015. It was relatively easy to undertake this endeavor as knitwear has in one way or another been Shreeya’s family business for more than 30 years. She wanted to add handmade products and employ local women to the family business as homage to her grandfather.

The Joba Knit products aren’t manufactured in factories or work spaces. Since there isn’t a specific space where the women workers need to work, they can take the materials and knit in their own homes and in their spare time, which makes all its products authentically handmade and essentially Nepalese.

Inspiration for the products

Its products range from tote bags, toys, and key chains to clothing. Tote bags and key chains are popular regardless of the season, but knit wears are essentially winter-based products. The ideas for the products came from various sources. Based on market demands and the sales of different products, it determines which products should be ideally pushed ahead than the rest. The popular contents found on the internet also help it generate ideas and lets it experiment on them.

Standing out from the crowd

There are a lot of products in the market, and the question that is usually raised is on the quality of these products. Joba has been strict on maintaining its quality, and making sure to use the best quality yarns that give buyers the highest possible utility and comfort. The quality of products that are made here are much better than ones that people generally get in the market. Along with the emphasis on quality, it also focuses on color tones, and shades to provide products that aren’t easily available elsewhere. The quality of its products would easily set Joba apart from the rest.

Making the products

The raw materials used for Joba products are sourced locally from stores in Nepal, and they are later handed out to the women workers. Currently there are ten women working with it, and because most women have their own shops, they don’t get to work on the products as much as it would like them. Despite that, the women workers have always been reliable and because they can work from their homes, they have the freedom to work at their own pace, but urgent products are, of course, delivered on time.
