Switching to LED may be costly at first, but is beneficial in the long run.

Beware of the little expenses; a small leak will sink a great ship”- Benjamin Franklin

Like the saying above goes, paying attention to minute details in our house makes a large difference. Most of us have switched from the traditional incandescent (tube lights and bulbs) to CFL bulbs, however, only a handful of households have actually considered LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).  The main reason of which is the cost of initial capital (which is comparatively high), yet switching onto LED is highly advisable, mainly because of the following reasons

Health issues:

For any human being, health is a major issue which should be focused. Switching to LEDs can help avoid many health related problems.

Reduce eye problems: Most of the LED lights come with a flicker free feature which insures that there is absolutely no flicker even for a long period of time irrespective of fluctuations in the main voltage resulting in less strain to the eyes while studying. It results in higher optical efficiency.  It is not only limited to lights but also includes LED TV screens and monitors as well.

Induces better sleep: When our body does not receive enough light, our body starts to suffer in many ways.  If a lighting system has the capacity to control the content of light with its relation to the natural environment it can help our own “biological clock”. In a study, with subjects whose average age was 55-75 showed improvements in depression, agitation, and sleep when they received high daytime levels of light, all because of LEDs.

Reduces blood pressure: LED is free of mercury which helps in lowering the blood pressure and other major health problems.

Ultimately Economical

Initially, the price of LEDs may seem high for us, however upon close inspection we can see that the cost of the bulbs is highly economical to us in the long run.

However, the lumens or the light emitting capacity of LED is higher than that of CFL bulbs, a normal room in Nepal shall require only one LED bulb/tube of more or less 5W but a CFL bulb of 8W, which makes is clear that even if the initial purchasing bill is high, the regular electricity consumption bills will be reduced by a very large amount.  As a result, conversion to the LEDs from other bulbs seems to save a lot of money for us.

Environment friendly

As mentioned above, LEDs do not contain toxic mercury.  Mercury is harmful for our environment as well.  The carbon-dioxide emission form LED is also 451pounds a year (CFL = 1051 pounds a year).  So the consumption of LED shall not contribute to environmental degradation.

Convenient to replace:

LEDs do not need any other fitting materials.  They can easily replace the CFL fitting space in the house and do not need additional equipment. They are known to fit lamps and work as decorative lights during festivals. They can be fit for

  • Bulbs
  • Down lights
  • Spotlights
  • Decorative purposes or example: Lights for Tihar or Christmas, nightlights or chandeliers.

Thus, shifting from any other lighting to LED is highly advisable.

Among various LED light providers, SYSKA LED and Opple are the leading brands with various kinds of light bulbs for home and office use, for both indoors and outdoors. Available in different designs and models with varying in power consumption and both warm and cool lighting, both these brands have established themselves as the best in business for their LED products.
