Travelling with Family across the Pond
To go to a place and especially one that is far away like the U.S., especially with family, is bound to be exciting and fun.
I went on a trip to the United States with my family last summer, where I have been travelling to every year for the past three years. The two main motives for this trip were: leisure; and an opportunity to be with my family there. For this trip we started off in New York, where we stayed for a week. When you think of New York you think of all the landmarks, and that is exactly what we did.
We visited the major landmarks in New York and since I had friends there, we all had a wonderful time. The main attractions in New York for me are the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. We visited those sites and also went to Central Park. I’ve been to New York a couple of times, and every time I’m there, it never ceases to amaze me. In the evenings I find spending time in Times Square a fun and exciting thing to do. It is bright and there is a large crowd of people, all of different cultures and nationalities, and they are very generous as well. I find it fun when at times they offer to help take pictures for us, without us having to even ask!
From New York, our next destination was Washington DC, where we spent ten days. I like going to Washington because my sister lives there and it is a wonderful opportunity for my daughter to spend time there. My sister’s daughter is also about the same age as my daughter and they get along very well, and being in Washington gives them the chance to play and spend time together. Because of that alone we travel to Washington every year. Even when we plan to skip Washington on the next trip, we have to add it eventually because my daughter wants to spend time there since she has a cousin she can easily get along with, and obviously there is no winning against her stubbornness. So this trip is basically for the kids to enjoy themselves, and we let them do what they want to do and have fun.
DC has a couple of places that intrigues us. We visited the museums and around the Washington Monument because the kids were interested in them, but apart from that, we did visit the Parliament House. This year, after Washington, we did manage to travel to Maryland and Baltimore. After a few days there, we headed to San Francisco, which was exciting because that meant that we’d travel all the way from the East-Coast to the West-Coast! I have a few family members living in San Francisco as well and we had planned a road trip from one state to the next—Reno, Nevada! The place was like a mini Las Vegas, with a lot of casinos, hotels, and arcades where the kids could play. It was a two-day trip with my cousin’s family, where the adults could enjoy the stay just as much as the kids.
Returning from Reno, we got to visit Lake Tahoe, which was one of the most beautiful places I have seen! We could see the lake bed, and the fishes because the water was so clear. It somewhat resembles Phewa Lake but the water was amazingly clear, and because of its immense size, people visit it every season. It is almost like a picnic spot in the warm weather and it also presented itself as a wonderful destination in the winter, when the entire lake freezes and makes itself a wonderful ice-skating haven. In my opinion, I believe it is about 10 or more times larger than Phewa Lake.
After spending a day there with our family and having a nice warm time together, the trip came to and end. The entire trip this year took us closer to our family and not just for the adults but for the kids as well. Everyone had a wonderful time together and we’re looking forward to the next one!
